Alright, so today I felt like making a proper cup of tea and thought, why not walk through how I actually do it? It’s nothing fancy, but it’s my routine, you know?

First up, I headed to the kitchen. Gotta get the gear together. My process usually starts with these bits:
- My trusty electric kettle.
- A decent-sized mug – the blue one today.
- A teabag – standard black tea, nothing too exotic.
- Cold water from the tap.
- Milk and sugar (sometimes honey, but sugar today).
So, I grabbed the kettle. Took it over to the sink and filled it up with fresh cold water. I try not to fill it too much, just enough for a mug or two, saves energy and boils quicker. Popped it back on its base.
Then, the important part: flicking the switch. You get that little click and the light comes on. Now, we wait. I usually potter about a bit while it heats up, maybe rinse the mug out or just stare out the window.
While the water was doing its thing, I got the mug ready. Just dropped the teabag straight in there. Simple.
Soon enough, I heard that familiar rumble build up, and then the click – the kettle boiled. Perfect. I picked up the kettle, being careful ’cause it’s obviously hot, and poured the boiling water right over the teabag in the mug. I filled it up near the top, leaving a bit of room.

Now for the steeping. This is crucial, I reckon. Can’t rush it. I let the teabag just sit there in the hot water. I usually give it a good three, maybe four minutes. I like it fairly strong. Sometimes I give the bag a little dunk or stir halfway through with a spoon.
Okay, time’s up. I fished out the teabag using the spoon, gave it a gentle squeeze against the side of the mug to get the last bit of flavor out, and then dropped it in the bin.
Next, the additions. I grabbed the milk from the fridge, poured just a splash in – enough to turn it a nice tan color. Then, one teaspoon of sugar. Grabbed the spoon again and gave it all a good stir until the sugar dissolved.
And that’s pretty much it. Picked up my freshly made cup of tea. Found a comfy spot to sit down. Took that first sip. Ahhh, yeah. That hit the spot. Job done.
