Okay, so I saw this cute idea online for a tea cup lamp and thought, “I gotta try that!” It looked pretty simple, and I had most of the stuff lying around anyway. I’m all about repurposing old things, so this was right up my alley.

Gathering My Supplies
First things first, I needed to find a teacup and saucer. I went digging through my grandma’s old china cabinet (with her permission, of course!) and found this adorable floral one. Perfect! Then I needed:
- A small lamp kit (I picked one up at the hardware store)
- A drill with a ceramic drill bit (This was the scary part!)
- Some strong adhesive (I used E6000, that stuff is amazing)
- A lampshade (I found a plain white one that I could decorate later)
Drilling the Hole (The Nerve-Wracking Part)
This was definitely the most challenging part. I’ve never drilled through ceramic before! I put some masking tape on the bottom of the teacup where I wanted the hole to be – apparently, this helps prevent cracking. Then, taking a deep breath, I started drilling. Very. Slowly. I kept adding a little water to keep the bit cool and prevent overheating. It took a while, but I finally got through! I did the same thing with the saucer, making sure the holes would line up.
Putting It All Together
Once the holes were drilled, the rest was pretty easy. I threaded the lamp cord through the holes in the saucer and teacup, then followed the instructions on the lamp kit to wire everything up. I’m no electrician, but it was surprisingly straightforward. After that i used some glue.
Then, I used the adhesive to glue the teacup to the saucer, making sure it was nice and secure. I let it dry overnight, just to be safe.
The Finishing Touches
The next day, I attached the lampshade and screwed in a lightbulb. And voila! My very own tea cup lamp! I’m actually really proud of how it turned out. It’s so unique and adds a whimsical touch to my living room. I’m even thinking about adding some embellishments to the lampshade, maybe some lace or ribbon.

Honestly, the whole project was way easier than I expected. If I can do it, anyone can! It’s a fun way to upcycle old teacups and create something beautiful and functional. I may become a tea cup lamp expert now.
